The shadow in the image is instantly recognisable to many Glastonbury fans as that of the skeleton frame of the iconic Pyramid Stage.

It’s doubtful they visited Worthy Farm, home of Glastonbury Festival, just to see the cows.

Everyone knows Coldplay will headline Glastonbury on Saturday, but no one has admitted it yet.

U2, Coldplay and Beyoncé to headline Glastonbury 2011 says Holy Moly

February 8th, 2011

U2, Coldplay, and Beyoncé are to headline this Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this summer according to Holy Moly

The entertainment website claims to have exclusive information that U2 will headline on Friday, Coldplay on Saturday and Beyoncé will close the festival on Sunday.

Holy Moly have been correct with their Glastonbury line-up predictions in the past and all three acts have been rumoured to play for a while. U2 pulled out last year due to Bono’s back injury, then later released a song titled “Glastonbury”, so have been widely expected to play this year, Michael Eavis said last year that Coldplay would be returning this year, and Beyoncé is obviously the American female act who hasn’t played the festival before that Michael said he’d been trying to get for “yonks and yonks”, so we have no reason to doubt that this information is correct.

Radiohead and Fun Lovin Criminals to play Glastonbury?

February 6th, 2011

Fun Lovin Criminals frontman and BBC 6Music DJ Huey Morgan has revealed that he will be playing Glastonbury this year, and also speculated whether Radiohead will be there too.

He said,

“We had Phil Selway,on the show a couple of weeks back, and he was saying he might see me at Glastonbury because I’m gonna be playing, and if he’s going to be there he might be playing. I don’t know, because he’s got a family and what not, he might not want to bring his whole family there, so they might be playing, who knows?”.

This was said immediately after playing Radiohead – Just, suggesting that “they” referred to Radiohead, though Selway could have originally meant that he’ll be there with one of his other projects, or even just to see some bands. As Huey said, who knows?

Huey Morgan didn’t clarify whether he’ll be playing with the Fun Lovin Criminals or doing a DJ set. We’ll let you know as soon as we have more information.

You can listen and judge for yourself using the BBC iPlayer (skip to 8 mins). This recording is only available to UK IP addresses until 4:02PM Sun, 13th Feb.

For a list of acts who have already confirmed that they’ll be playing Glastonbury this year, see our line-up page. If you have information about an act playing Glastonbury that is not already on our list, then please feel free to post what you know on our Glastonbury forum, or just pop in for a chat about all things Glasto.

U2, Prince and Coldplay to headline Glastonbury 2011?

October 22nd, 2010

According to The Sun newspaper, the Glastonbury 2011 Pyramid Stage headliners will be U2, Prince and possibly Coldplay.

The Sun were the first to confirm U2 as headliners this year before they had to pull out due to Bono’s back injury. So will it be two years in a row that the often maligned newspaper has trumped everyone else to the first Glastonbury headline confirmation?

All three acts have been heavily rumoured to play for months, so it will be no surprise to many Glastonbury fans if they do play.

This is what The Sun has to say.

GLASTONBURY 2011 is lining up to be a real royal affair.

PRINCE and rock kings U2 have signed up to top the bill.

COLDPLAY are likely to fill the third headline slot too, with the final details being thrashed out. The festival isn’t for another eight months but founder MICHAEL EAVIS has clearly been grafting hard masterminding the best music event in years.

Somerset police debunk story about lack of police availability for Glastonbury 2012

October 18th, 2010

Contrary to recent reports in the media about Glastonbury Festival 2012 being “cancelled” because of a lack of available police officers and port-a-loos due to the London Olympics, Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Michael Eavis have issued statements debunking the story, which appears to have been started by the Daily Mail.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said this this afternoon.

Media reports have incorrectly stated there will not be enough police officers available to allow the festival to go ahead in 2012. The Olympics will no doubt make 2012 a busy time for us. However, if the festival organisers choose to hold a festival that year we would find a way to police it – after all the show must go on!

You can read the full statement here.

According to the This is Somerset website, Michael Eavis made this statement about the reason for there being no festival in 2012.

We have a year off anyway every fifth year and have just pushed that forward a year. It is nothing to do with portable toilets.

We are having a total year off, no Glastonbury Festival, no Pilton Party, no Extravaganza.

The fact that there is no festival is 2012 is hardly news. It was officially announced in January 2009 that the fallow year was going to be pushed back from 2011 to 2012 which was widely known long before the official announcement.

The media are running a non-story.
