Fatboy Slim self confirms for Glastonbury 2011

July 9th, 2010

Superstar DJ Norman Cook AKA Fatboy Slim has stated on his website that he will be playing Glastonbury next year.

When asked by website visitor Vic about his secret sets at Glastonbury, Cook replied

Hello vic, sorry I didn’t get this until I got back from glasto. I didn’t get there until Friday coz I flew straight from the world cup in south africa. I hope you caught me in the dance tent on Friday night coz my ‘guerilla’ gig didn’t happen on Saturday. It was supposed to be a sound system by the bandstand but the security got wind (as did too many people) and they closed us down because of crowd safety. it’s a shame, next year I’ll go back up to shangri la and play one of the more recognised systems like arcadia. I hope you enjoyed the sunshine.
What a classic glasto that was!

Gorillaz to replace U2 as Friday Pyramid Stage headliners

May 26th, 2010

Gorillaz have been announced as replacements for U2 as Friday night Pyramid Stage headliners.

Speculation has been raging since it was announced that U2 had to pull out of Glastonbury due to Bono suffering a serious back injury. Amoung the previously rumoured acts were Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney and Coldplay.

Michael Eavis said “This is going to be Gorilllaz’ only UK festival appearance, and it’ll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.

“I’m very excited about Gorillaz’ show coming here because they’re so open to guests and collaborations. The alchemy of Friday’s show is going to be astonishing: a perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations.

“I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis.”

Murdoc from Gorillaz commented, “We’re like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the Bay of Glastonbury to save the day. It was us or The Beatles and they split up years ago. The previous soldiers got pulled from duty last minute so it’s up to my Plastic Beach naval cavalry to sail in and sort the battlefield out. I can assure you though, I’m bringing extra troops. Loads of them. Glastonbury will be ours…cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We’re coming in…”

U2 cancel Glastonbury performance

May 25th, 2010

It has been reported on the official Glastonbury Festival website that U2 have had to pull out of their forthcoming Glastonbury performance due to Bono’s recent back injury.

Bono phoned Michael Eavis personally this morning to give him the news.

“I’m heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special – we even wrote a song especially for the Festival.”, said Bono.

Micael Eavis said, “It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed. Clearly, they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid Stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them. At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2’s Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.”

Speculation as to who will replace U2 as the Friday night Pyramid Stage headliner is already raging, with Coldplay, Dizzee Rascal and Led Zepplin the current favourites.

Rolf Harris to play the Pyramid Stage

May 11th, 2010

Veteran Australian performer Rolf Harris will open Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on Friday 26th June. The Pyramid Stage opening acts for Saturday and Sunday have also been named, they are Tinchy Stryder and the Yeovil Town Band.

Pixies self confirm for Glastonbury on Twitter

April 3rd, 2010

Update 04/04: It turns out that the Pixies are not playing Glastonbury, it was an April Fools Day hoax by Joey Santiago. He’s since tweetedI am not aware of any Glastonbury plans. Yes NME, I did reply to a tweet…on April Fool’s Day.” Confusion was caused by the time difference between the US and UK. When he posted the original tweet it was April 1st in the US, but April 2nd in the UK, though it was well past midday in the States, so shouldn’t have been an April Fool anyway.

——————–

The Pixies’ lead guitarist, Joey Santiago has confirmed to a fan on Twitter that they will be playing Glastonbury Festival this year.

When @MichaelS1990 requested that they play Glastonbury this year, Joey Santiag replied “We are!!!”.

This is the conversation.
