Glastonbury Festival has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to allow it to sell its coverage of the event globally.

The BBC has broadcast the festival in the UK for more than a decade, but will have the worldwide television distribution rights for the first time this summer.

BBC Worldwide Music’s head of content development John Mansfield, said: “In this momentous year, as Glastonbury celebrates its 40th anniversary, we are proud and privileged to bring the much celebrated BBC coverage to a global stage.”

Ben Challis, Glastonbury Festival’s executive producer for TV, added: “we have worked with the BBC in the UK since 1997 and the award winning coverage of Glastonbury just gets better and better.”

The deal was announced at the BBC Worldwide’s exclusive annual event, the BBC Showcase in Brighton, at which it sells programmes and formats to international broadcasters.
