The Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent Competition 2010 was launched today

Glasto runs the annual competition in association with Q Magazine to find the UK’s finest unsigned talent, then gives them the chance to play on either the Pyramid or Other stages during the festival.

Emily Eavis said “New music is an integral part of Glastonbury and we want to give the best new bands a chance to play on the Pyramid Stage. Last year, as well as the winners performing on the John Peel Stage, all the finalists got gigs on smaller stages, too. We look forward to hearing from all those unsigned bands who want a chance to play next year, which is looking set to be very special as it’s our 40th anniversary.”

The competition will be judged by Michael and Emily Eavis, Radio One’s Huw Stephens and Paul Rees from Q Magazine. The judges will be responsible for picking 11 of the finalists, with 10 runners-up put to a public vote to secure the 12th spot.

The 12 finalists will compete for a slot at the Festival by playing a 20 minute set at the Pilton Working Men’s Club on 26th, 27th, 28th March. Finalists will be paid £150 per band or artist. The winner will have the opportunity to play on either the Other or the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury 2010, 25th, 26th and 27th of June! The winner will also be paid £500.

In addition to the 12 entrants selected for the finals, one early bird entrant (any act entering before 31st Dec) will play the Queen’s Head Stage. The early bird winner will remain in the competition, retaining their chance to win a slot on the Pyramid or Other Stages.

The deadline for uploading entries is Monday 26th Jan. You will need to supply the following to enter: a short biography of your act and some contact details, one photo, up to two tracks. Each entry will cost £11.95.
