It has been announced that Reading and Leeds Festivals will not allow fans to take flags into the festival arenas for this year’s event.
The move is to give fans the best possible view without restriction. Information on the festival’s website says:
“Flags won’t be allowed in the arena. They restrict the view of people behind,”
The main bone of contention at Glastonbury this year (apart from mobile phone coverage) was the amount of flags in the main areas.
Viewing acts from various vantage points around the main arenas left you in no doubt that the flags played a major part in obstructing the view for some.
There has been a lot said since about how Glastonbury can prevent such colourful and untimely annoying display in future. Would it be against the spirit of the festival to ‘ban’ flags from the arenas?
Some say yes, however if people are paying the best part of £200 then the least they can expect is to see more than the flag of some obscure nation being waved front of them.
We wait and see if Glastonbury organisers take note of its younger festival cousin.
