Maximo Park To Launch Glasto 2009

Maximo Park have been announced as the band to officially launch the 2009 Glastonbury festival.
The band will play the new William Green area of the site at 4pm on the Thursday June 25th. Officially the billed music at Glastonbury doesn’t begin until the following day. The gates opens to ticketholders at 8am on June 24 and there are a number of performances taking place throughout the site.

Amazingly Maximo Park will also play Glastonbury’s Other Stage on the Saturday of the festival June 27.

Due to space limitations the first 1,500 fans who head to the William Green area for the show will gain entry to the performance.

Maximo Park singer Paul Smith said in a statement: “Glastonbury’s still a festival that takes chances, as proven by Jay-Z’s triumphant appearance last year, so it’s an honour for us to be the first band on, in such intimate surroundings.

The William Green area of the site is named after Glastonbury chief Michael Eavis’ grandfather and It is located on the road from the Pyramid Stage to the Acoustic Field.
