Glastonbury co-organiser Melvin Benn has revealed that he’s been talking to Michael Eavis about introducing a ban on flags in front of stages.
The proliferation of flags has increased rapidly over the last few years to the point where it is often impossible to see acts performing on stage.
This has lead to many fans complaining about the view, particularly during Bruce Springsteen’s Saturday night Pyramid Stage headline performance this year.
“You couldn’t see the acts, the flags were everywhere.”
Benn described them as “a nightmare” and added “The people behind them – not immediately behind them, but 20 or 30 rows behind them – can’t see. For some reason those that buy a flag want to be closest to the stage.”
He continued, “You couldn’t see the acts, the flags were everywhere. There have always been flags but not to the level that there has been. And the flags have become very long and tall.”
He also said that some people were using them to advertise goods and services.
